The ED is staffed by physicians, nurses, and other allied team professionals such as social workers, physiotherapists, and pharmacists.

We support our community with an Emergency Psychiatric Unit, located in the Emergency Department to assess and support people with mental health or addictions issues.

To support our senior population, we have specialized Geriatric Emergency Management (GEM) nurses. The GEMs provide geriatric assessments, and help organize resources for seniors needing extra care at home so they can avoid admission to hospital. They also provide support to our emergency staff on senior care issues and treatments.

The Nurse Led Outreach Team (NLOT) is a group of specialized nurses who provides support and education to Long Term Care (LTC) homes in our region to help prevent hospital visits. This partnership provides a link between the ED and LTC homes in the region to provide seamless care for senior citizens.

Humber’s Emergency Department is proud to play an important role in the city-wide Code STEMI Program in partnership with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Toronto Paramedic Services. This means if you come to the ED experiencing a heart attack, you will be treated and transported immediately to Sunnybrook, where you will get specialized treatment.

We are also a partner in the Code Stroke Care Program. We provide rapid assessment, and transport if needed to Toronto Western Hospital where you will receive specialized treatment.
