Indicators and Performance

Our patients and families count on us for expert, compassionate care, and we work hard every day to meet that expectation. Providing our patients with the finest possible quality of care is our first priority, and we use a wide range of metrics to monitor our success in that work. They cover quality of care, safety and fiscal performance.

These quality indicators are reported throughout the organization, from the unit level up to our Board of Directors. In turn we make those performance results available publicly on this website, embracing Humber River Hospital’s commitment to transparency and open communication with our patients and community.

Not only do we do internal monitoring, but HRH is also an enthusiastic partner in many initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and performance in our hospital.
 
Safer Healthcare Now is coordinated by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, and looks at hospital performance across Canada on important quality indicators like the rate of central line infections or the rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Humber River has participated in Safer Healthcare Now for the past several years, using that information to further improve the delivery of care.

We also participate in Accreditation Canada’s performance survey. Accreditation Canada (AC) is the national, non-profit organization established to monitor hospital performance across the country. In our 2010 survey Humber scored an impressive 97% compliance rate, and was cited for an unprecedented five leading practices.
