General surgery

The Division of General Surgery at Humber River Health has 13 general surgeons with a wide variety of expertise including breast, bariatric, endocrine, foregut, colorectal, hernia, and acute care emergency surgery.

The division prides itself on a tradition of innovation and being a leader in embracing technology. Laparoscopic surgery, with small keyhole incisions, has a tremendous advantage for patient’s comfort and recovery. We were one of the first hospitals in Ontario to broadly adopt laparoscopic surgery and continue to be leaders, with the vast majority of our operations being done laparoscopically.

We have a dedicated Breast Health Centre for rapid access to care, one of the highest volume Bariatric Centres in Ontario, and were one of the first community hospitals in Canada to have a Da Vinci Robot and first to perform robotic ventral hernia repairs. This robotic surgery program continues to grow, most recently to include colorectal cancer surgeries.

At Humber River Health, we have an extremely high volumes within our emergency department. As such we have a robust Acute Care Surgical program run by dedicated surgeons specializing in the laparoscopic management of acute surgical problems. Whether you are referring patients to Humber River Health or requiring our services as a patient, we are committed to providing exemplary surgical care with compassion and professionalism.
