My name is Pauline Becker and after completing my science degree from McMaster University I worked as a Registered Massage Therapist and Certified Exercise Physiologist for 18 years. In 2017, I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery and I bring this passion for health and wellness to my work here at West End Midwives. Dr. Murray Berall studied genetics at McGill University and attended medical school at Dalhousie University. He completed his post-graduate education in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Toronto. Dr Berall has served as President of the Medical Staff at Northwestern General Hospital for four years, followed by his role as the first medical staff president of Humber River Hospital. He was the first Director of Dialysis at HRH and helped oversee the creation of the initial program. His present interest is in the field of sleep medicine, its impact and management in the hypertensive patient, and its role in creating morbidity in patients with CKD.
Dr. Howard Berger completed medical School and Obstetrics and Gynecology residency in Israel. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mt Sinai Hospital, Toronto. In 2006 Dr. Berger joined the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto and leads the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetric Ultrasound. My name is Laura Coombs. My interest in midwifery began as a child when I was present for the birth of my brother. It made a lasting impression on me - now I have the honour of being a midwife myself. I have a degree in biology from Mount Allison University. My name is Nikki Eskandari. In 1992 and upon graduation from a midwifery program (Bachelor of Health Science) from Iran, I worked in the field of reproductive health rights and midwifery for many years in both Iran and India. After my arrival in Canada and in 2016, I completed the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program at Ryerson University in Toronto. Then, I have practised Midwifery in Markham Ontario and Northern Regional Health prior to Joining West End Midwives. I feel so honoured and excited to serve a very diverse community in Toronto. My passion is working in the area of women health, rights, and motherhood as well as strengthen women’s confidence and knowledge for decision making during pregnancy, labour and delivery. Dr Richard Hamat is a General Paediatrician at Humber Hospital and has practised in the community at the Vaughan Paediatric Clinic in Woodbridge Ontario since 1989. My name is Manavi Handa. I have been practising midwifery in Ontario since 2000. I completed the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University, where I am now a member of the faculty, training new students each year. I spend a part of each year teaching and doing research, and part of the year practising at West End Midwives. I am the Midwifery Clinical Coordinator at the Non-Insured Walk-In Clinic (NIWIC) - a program I helped start to serve non-insured pregnant women in Toronto. My name is Elaine Ho. My parents are from Hong Kong. I was born in Kitchener, Ontario and grew up in Toronto. My own children were born in North Bay, Kingston and Toronto.
