The Power of Shoes

By Humber River Health

When people come together, amazing things can happen. Take the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women as an example.

Humber River Health called on staff, physicians and volunteers to donate
new or gently-used pairs of shoes. Hundreds of pairs were donated in the name of helping women.

“The shoe drive was meant to be more than just collecting donations,” said equity and inclusions specialist, Umwali Sauter. “It symbolized an entire community ‘stepping up’ for women everywhere.”

On February 13, 2019, the shoes were picked up by Soles4Souls, a non-forprofit charity dedicated to helping individuals lift themselves out of poverty. With the donation, Soles4Souls will be able to help those that need it most, by protecting against harmful diseases, allowing children to attend school and bridging the poverty gap here in Canada and the United States.
