Ethics Consultations
Humber River Heath offers clinical ethics consultations related to care received at Hennick Humber Hospital or the Church and Finch Reactivation Care Centres. This service is available to all patients receiving care, their substitute decision makers (SDMs), or concerned family members, and friends.
Ethics consults are mainly meant to support individuals struggling with moral uncertainty as it relates to patient care. For example, often SDMs must make hard, life or death decisions for patients. SDMs struggling with this responsibility can consult ethics for educational resources and personal decisional support.
Those feeling their personal values are either being misunderstood or disrespected may also contact ethics to help mediate conflicts due to differing moral outlooks, especially if such conflicts interfere with patient care.
