Accreditation with Exemplary Standing

By Humber River Health

Accreditation Canada, the independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for quality and safety in health care, immediately awarded Humber River Health with its highest rating of Accreditation with Exemplary Standing for achieving 100% of Required Organizational Practices and 99.9% of 2,800 standards.

Surveyors from Accreditation Canada evaluated the hospital over five days in October which included, a review of documents, walkabouts to several areas of the hospital to observe Humber’s care and discuss services with staff, physicians, patients, and families.   In the final report, Accreditation Canada concluded, “Humber River Health has gone beyond the requirements of the Qmentum accreditation program and demonstrates excellence in quality improvement.”

“As a High Reliability hospital, we are constantly working to improve the safety and quality of care we provide to patients and families.  It is gratifying to have Accreditation Canada confirm our success”, says Barb Collins, President and CEO, Humber River Health.

Other notable comments from the Accreditation Canada survey team included,

“Visionary leadership and a commitment to becoming a high reliability organization will continue to position the hospital as a leader and model for many other organizations.”

“The hospital has worked hard to develop and adopt evidence–based practise to enhance quality and safety.  In many areas such as infection control, medication safety, and falls prevention, the results are impressive and have been sustained over extended periods of time.”

“HRH has leveraged its technological platform and incorporates technology into everyday business processes. Staff appear to have embraced technology and value how it enables them to provide excellent care and services.”
