Humber River Health (Humber) has formally joined the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Care Network, marking a significant step toward enhancing cancer care expertise, research, and education across Northwest Toronto, Etobicoke, Rexdale, and York Region. Humber becomes the eighth cancer program in Canada to join the PM Cancer Care Network — a collective of local, regional, and national partners committed to advancing collaborative clinical care, accelerating research and innovation, and strengthening cancer education.
“We are proud to formalize this partnership with Humber River Health, which will strengthen and expand access to specialised cancer services while advancing education and research. Together, we will enhance care and support for patients and their caregivers closer to home,” says Dr. Keith Stewart, VP Cancer and Laboratory Medicine, UHN, and Director of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
The Cancer Care Program at Humber River Health provides comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care through an integrated team of specialists. The program features a 32-bed inpatient unit for medical care and symptom management, including a radiation isolation room, and a Cancer Care Clinic with 28 treatment spaces offering systemic therapy and access to clinical trials. Patients benefit from coordinated care, peer-to-peer support, and a dedicated Patient and Family Advisory Council to ensure a person-centred approach.
“At Humber River Health, we are deeply committed to delivering high-quality cancer care through innovation, collaboration, and compassion,” says Dr. Peter Voros, Vice President of Clinical Programs and Corporate Support Services at Humber River Health. “This partnership reinforces that commitment by fostering shared learning and clinical excellence. Through the collective efforts of our teams, we are bringing more integrated, connected cancer care services closer to home for the communities we serve.”
“Through the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network, our goal is to strengthen care by sharing expertise and innovation across partner sites. We aim to address unmet needs while collaborating alongside, not replacing, existing partnerships,” said Dr. Andrea Bezjak, Medical Director of the PM Cancer Care Network.
Network partners within Ontario include Southlake Health, Waterloo Regional Health Network, Oak Valley Health, William Osler Health System, and Mackenzie Health. The out‑of‑province partners are Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.
