Humber River Health (Humber) proudly celebrated its 10th anniversary of its Wilson Site this past year, now known as Hennick Humber Hospital, marking a decade since the opening of North America’s first fully digital hospital. Since then, this site has stood as a symbol of bold thinking, purposeful innovation, and a new vision for how healthcare can be delivered in Canada.
When the hospital opened its doors on October 18, 2015, it represented more than a new building; it represented a promise to patients, families, staff, physicians, volunteers, and the surrounding community. Over the past ten years, that promise has grown into a high-reliability health system where technology, innovation, and compassion work together to support safer, more efficient, and more patient-centred care.
This decade has also been defined by significant growth as we have continued to respond to the changing and expanding needs of its community:
- Emergency visits have grown from 111,000 in 2014 to 134,140 in 2025
- Operating room cases have increased from 37,230 in 2014 to 53,660 in 2025
- Weighted cases have risen from 37,700 in 2014 to 58,160 in 2025
- Beds across the Wilson, Finch, and Church campuses have increased from 534 in 2014 to 1,095 in 2025
- Staff have grown from 3,100 in 2014 to 4,400 in 2025
- The total ratio and accumulated surplus have increased from 0.85 and $8 million in 2014 to 1.5 and $97 million in 2025
Together, these milestones tell a powerful story of an organization that has scaled with purpose, expanding access to care while maintaining a steadfast focus on quality, safety, sustainability, and innovation. They reflect not only increased capacity, but our ongoing commitment to meeting people where they are and building a stronger, more responsive health system for the future.
As we look ahead to its next decade, we remain committed to advancing its mission of working with its community to deliver high-quality, safe, and equitable care.
