Professional Practice at Humber River Health: Meet the Team

By Humber River Health

Behind every exceptional patient care experience is a team dedicated to advancing learning, professional growth, and clinical excellence. The Professional Practice Team at Humber River Health (Humber) plays a vital role in shaping the organization’s overall performance by supporting staff, students and clinical teams through education, mentorship, simulation-based learning, and student placement coordination.

While not working directly with patients, their behind-the-scenes work helps ensure that Humber delivers a smooth, supportive and high-quality experience for patients, families, students, and staff. Through their collective work, rooted in advancing excellence through continuous education, they help create a dynamic learning environment that empowers healthcare professionals.

In April 2021, Humber River Health became part of Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO). As a designated BPSO, Humber River Health, with the support of the Professional Practice Team, continues to build a culture of evidence-based practice within all aspects of care delivery.

Meet the Team

Each member of the Professional Practice team contributes a unique area of expertise while sharing a common goal; to support continuous learning and improve patient care experience in the organization.

Meet the Professional Practice Team at Humber River Health; from left to right: Melissa, Gurmit, Ida, and Diksha

Gurmit, a Manager of the Simulation Lab, BPSO, and Wound & Skin, believes that great healthcare begins with a strong foundation of continuous learning, authentic leadership, and meaningful collaboration. Whether precepting students, supporting clinical staff, or leading organizational initiatives, she remains deeply committed to helping others grow, succeed, and thrive—while enhancing outcomes for patients and families.

Ida, as an Education Coordinator, plays a vital role in shaping the learning journey across the organization. By leading new staff corporate orientation, overseeing our learning management system, and driving ongoing education initiatives, Ida helps ensure every team member feels supported, prepared, and confident in their role.

Diksha, as a Learner and Student Affairs Assistant, is instrumental in coordinating nursing and non-nursing student placements across Humber River Health’s three sites. Through strong partnerships with numerous academic institutions, Diksha ensures learners are well prepared, supported, and set up for meaningful and successful placement experiences.

Melissa, as a BPSO & Simulation Lab Coordinator, leads the coordination of monthly simulation-based nursing orientations and supports key professional practice workshops. Melissa also champions Best Practice Champion events, fostering knowledge sharing and interprofessional collaboration. Through partnerships with clinical teams, she helps deliver targeted simulation-based education that strengthens competence, confidence, and quality of care.

We appreciate the incredible work our Professional Practice Team does to ensure clinical excellence at Humber River Health.
